Meditation Timer
Sitting to a timer instead of watching the clock
A timer removes the need to keep checking how long you have been sitting. Set the length, choose a gentle end sound, place the screen where it will not keep pulling your attention back, and let the alarm mark the finish.
Attention wandering during a sit is ordinary. A simple practice is to notice that it wandered and return to the chosen anchor โ the breath, a sound, a word or a physical sensation โ without turning the distraction itself into a second task.
Keep the promise modest
Start with a duration you can repeat comfortably. A short session that fits your day is easier to make consistent than a long session you regularly postpone.
Meditation and paced breathing can be useful wellbeing practices, but this timer does not diagnose or treat a medical or mental-health condition. If a practice increases distress or uncomfortable symptoms, stop and use support appropriate to your situation.
Questions people ask
How long should a first session actually be?
Short enough that finishing feels easy rather than like an accomplishment โ five minutes is a perfectly reasonable place to start.
Is it normal for my mind to wander the whole time?
Yes, and it doesn’t mean the session failed. Returning attention after it wanders is the actual mechanism, not a sign of doing it wrong.
