What Eid ul Azha (Eid ul Adha) is

The feast of sacrifice, marking Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son, and the greater of the two Eids. It falls on the tenth day of Dhu al-Hijjah, at the end of the Hajj.

Those who can afford it sacrifice an animal and divide the meat three ways: family, friends and those in need. The name is written Eid ul Azha in South Asia and Eid al-Adha in Arabic transliteration.

How this date is calculated, and why it shifts each year

That is why it arrives earlier each year and works its way through all four seasons over roughly three decades.
